A KILDARE SOCCER club has said it is in “shock and mourning” following the death of a teenage club member in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend.

Clane United paid tribute to the team’s Under 17 player Kedagh Moore.

According to gardaí, Kedagh (16) died after he was struck by a vehicle just after midnight on Sunday morning. The driver failed to remain at the scene, according to gardaí.

The incident happened in Blackwood, near Robertstown, Co Kildare. Kedagh was brought to Naas General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A man has since been arrested.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Clane United Football Club paid tribute to Kedagh:

“Clane United is in shock and mourning today following the tragic loss of our Under 17 player Kedagh Moore in the most terrible circumstances,” the club said.

“The loss of such a terrific young man has left the club with a heartache that is felt by all our members.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are extended to all the Moore family as they come to terms with this shocking loss. To Kedagh’s coaches and teammates the club stands ready to help you through your grieving.

“Kedagh will forever be in our hearts. Ar dhèis Dè go raibh a anam.”

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident. 

They are particularly appealing to those with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the Prosperous, Allenwood, Carbury, and Robertstown areas between 11:30 pm and 3:30 am on 10 November, to come forward.
